Building Schools in Markham
Ontario Continues Supporting Student Success

Markham ON:  February 28, 2014
Today Ontario’s Minister of Education Liz Sandals was at Cornell Village Public School to announce that Ontario has approved the construction of two new schools in Markham. The construction of these two new schools demonstrate the Ontario government’s continued commitment to providing students with modern and improved places to learn while creating local construction jobs.

The two new schools announced today are:
- A new secondary school to be built in Markham at 935 Bur Oak Avenue, scheduled to open in 2016-2017
- A new elementary school to be built in Markham at 565 Fred McLaren Blvd, scheduled to open in 2015-2016

These new projects represent an estimated $50 million of new investment in Markham.
Building new schools and modernizing learning spaces is part of the government’s economic plan that is creating jobs for today and tomorrow. The comprehensive plan and its six priorities focus on Ontario’s greatest strengths — its people and strategic partnerships.
